Carla named First District “North Star”
The First Congressional District Republican Party (CD1 GOP) announced that Carla (SD 30 – parts of Olmsted and Wabasha counties) has been designated a North Star in its two tiered GOP North Stars program. By advancing to the top level Nelson has proven her ability to build a winning campaign and achieve substantial fund-raising goals.
“Carla Nelson has proven her ability to take on incumbent Sen. Ann Lynch, a big spending liberal Democrat who blindly supports the DFL call for job killing higher taxes and bigger government with reckless spending,” said Steve Perkins the CD1 GOP chair. “Neither your family nor my family can live this way. Carla’s campaign momentum indicates that voters understand this simple economic truth that their current Senator Lynch does not. Carla Nelson presents a very clear alternative to the tax, spend and borrow philosophy of the DFL. We fully intend to offer Minnesotans a better and more prosperous direction after the November elections.”
Perkins said, “As a successful small business owner, former Rochester teacher and legislator, Carla Nelson knows firsthand the issues we face in Olmsted and Wabasha counties and how we can do better. Carla is a long time Rochester resident and represents a lifetime of public and community service as a state and community leader.” Nelson has been a director on three state boards; the MN Higher Education Facilities Authority Board, Minnesota Academic Excellence Foundation and the Capitol Area Architectural Planning Board. Carla also was a director and officer for the Friends of Mayowood, Rochester Music Guild, and Rochester Network for Re-Entry boards. Carla and her husband, Terry have three grown children and are active members of Autumn Ridge Church. Carla attended Drake University and the University of Minnesota and earned a Master of Education in Teacher Leadership.
The GOP North Star program was founded in 2010 by CD1 GOP and patterned after the National Republican Congressional Committee “Young Guns” program. It is dedicated to electing open seat and challenger candidates throughout Minnesota’s 1st Congressional District. The North Star status is a symbol that Carla Nelson is ready take on incumbent liberal Sen. Lynch and her failed policies of the past.
In conclusion, Perkins said, “We fully intend to win this seat, not for ourselves but for the people of District 30 and Southern Minnesota. It is time for the return to common sense government and Carla Nelson is the perfect fit for this district.”
