Local Lawmakers, Vets Discuss Legislative Priorities in Rochester
(ABC 6 News) — About 50 veterans and their families turned out to a first-of-its-kind town hall Thursday in Rochester with local lawmakers.
The event was to help prioritize an agenda for the upcoming state legislation session for the Disabled American Veterans of Minnesota. Because it’s a short session, DAV Legislative Chair Trent Dilks says it’s important to be prepared.
“We have to be organized right away, make some pushes,” Dilks said.”One that we’re really working on is an income tax exemption for military retirees. 41 states in the U.S. have some sort of exemption; 22 fully exempt it. So, Minnesota is behind all of our neighbors.”
Dilks says the group has identified seven priorities. Event-goers had the opportunity to ask questions and give their comments to the DAV and State Senators Carla Nelson and Dave Senjem.
