Letter: Sen. Nelson is a strong advocate for improving child care

As a licensed family child care provider in Rochester, I support Sen. Carla Nelson. I have worked directly with Sen. Nelson and found her to be a keen listener and effective team player driven to meet the needs of her constituents, families and children.
Sen. Nelson carried legislation that removed barriers to child care training, improved infant safe sleep legislation and made needed changes for substitute caregivers and independent contractors working in childcare programs. She supported child care constituents opposing the child care unionization effort. Last session, she advocated for families, children and family child care providers, sending the Department of Human Serviced back to the work table with the Federal Child Care Block Grant requirements. She regularly meets with our local child care association gathering perspective and solutions from the field.
Currently, Sen. Nelson serves on the legislative task force on Affordable Child Care. The task force will bring solutions forward as we face a real child care crisis. Sen. Nelson’s work on the task force provides reassurance that family child care and family perspectives will be an integral part of regulation reform.
Sen. Nelson continues to demonstrate a unique ability to listen to the heart of her constituents, find solutions to improve everyday life, and tirelessly and skillfully advocates for them. I support Sen. Nelson and encourage you to support her on Nov. 8 too.
