Minnesota School Boards Association Names Carla Nelson “Superhero of Education”
The Minnesota School Boards Association named State Senator Carla Nelson one of its “Superheroes of Education” for 2012. Nelson, a who represents Senate District 26 in Southeast Minnesota, was lauded for her “untiring advocacy and being a student of the system by doing homework on the issues, creating thoughtful discourse, tackling complex education finance challenges and demanding that students receive education which would give them an edge in the global economy,” wrote Grace Keliher, the Association’s Director of Governmental Relations in their letter to Nelson.
“I am deeply grateful for the support of the Minnesota School Board Association, and will continue to work with them and others to strengthen our schools,” said Sen. Nelson.
“I will continue to advocate for programs that deliver results for our students,” she added.
A former special education teacher, Sen. Nelson serves as the Vice Chair of the Senate Education Committee, and has made improving education for students a key legislative goal.
