Sen. Carla Nelson Receives Public Safety Endorsements

Sen. Carla Nelson was recently awarded endorsements from organizations representing the local heroes who are the first on the scene when danger strikes here in Southeast Minnesota. Nelson, a State Senator representing Senate District 26, was awarded endorsements from the Minnesota Professional Fire Fighters, Police Officers Alliance of Minnesota, and Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association.
“Public safety is essential to every other aspect of Minnesota life,” said Sen. Nelson. “I am glad and honored to have the endorsements of our local heroes, our police, firefighters, and rescue personnel.”
Last week was a milestone for Olmsted County as the new Regional Training Facility broke ground in Rochester. It is slated to open in Fall 2013. “This new training facility will assist our first responders in giving them the training they need to perform their incredibly difficult and dangerous jobs correctly, and with confidence,” Sen. Nelson said.
Sen. Nelson also visited the Stewartville Fire Department’s open house. “It was a great opportunity to visit with many friends from Stewartville, but, more importantly, it was a fun way for kids to learn about the importance of fire safety. What to do when the house is on fire. They learn to ‘stop, drop, and roll.’ To wrap themselves in a wet towel when there’s smoke. Being able to put out a fire with a household fire extinguisher. This is crucially important training not just for kids, but the adults in their families as well.”
